Similarity

Recently, I have not had as much desire to photograph things. I feel as though, when I travel from city to city, I am seeing the same things over and over again. The architecture is the same, just with minuscule variations. The dress of the people, with slight deviation. I want to see something novel. Something that is not based on something else, but rather is its own independent conception.

Classical Education

One day, I want to take intercity kids, kids who only think of music as Rap and Hip-Hop, and take them to a Classical concert. And to tell them, I agree Classical music is boring, but when we go in, I don't want you to judge the music, or to compare it to what you know, but rather let it wash over you. See if it moves you. And see what happens.

Intention Part 2

In regards to the last post I am recognizing that this is how I (and we as a society) should attempt speech. Not as how we want to express it, but how we want others to comprehend it. This is timely as I am currently in France with some people who's English is not very good. I am recognizing the need to take out colloquialisms and simplify my word choice, in order that they may understand.

Intention

I've realized that when I am shooting and editing photographs, I am not thinking about the picture unto itself, but rather framing it as "what do I want to the viewer to see from this?" I am trying to create a specific experience for the viewer. For example:

Soul Man

Why is this song so damn good? I just want to move.

Spanish

Why do I enjoy speaking in Spanish so much? Is it the ability to communicate in a new way that is exciting? Or being able to communicate with people I wouldn't normally be able to?

Writing

Who said this? I should find out... "People don't write to say something, they write because they have something to say."

Creativity

I need to start expressing my creativity again. Photography has helped but its not quite right. Maybe start playing trumpet again when I get home?

Art Museums

I treat art museums like an all-you-can-eat sushi bar. I glance at things as they pass by, until something seizes my attention. Then I take hold until I have had my fill. And then I move on to the next one.
